Sports Excellence Punished in America

Here is a sad story that gives plenty of ammo to those who say that Americans are too dumb to be governed. It seems that there are oh so politically correct people in America who would punish sports excellence.

A nine year old pitcher in a baseball league has been banned from pitching because he is too good and throws a mean fastball. His team had eight wins and no losses when the Youth Baseball League of New Haven, Conn. told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more.

Officials for the three year old league, which has eight teams and over 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads. They state that Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned in protest. Vidro says he didn’t quit and the team refuses to disband.

Google Invests in Geothermal Energy

There are a lot of very smart people who work at Google. And not all of them are IT experts or working on some new exotic Google application designed for Internet use. How about Google’s management team deciding to make a far sighted investment in geothermal energy? Now, in my opinion, that is putting their considerable brain power to good use.

The smart people at Google on Tuesday took the drill or not to drill debate in a different direction. Google.org announced that it is investing nearly $11 million in technology to expand the nation’s geothermal reserves. That’s more than the “no problems, don’t worry, everything’s fine” U.S. government is spending on geothermal projects this year.

“While the U.S. debates drilling in the ocean for oil, we are focused on drilling for renewable energy - and lots of it - right beneath our feet,” Google.org said in a statement, citing a Massachusetts Institute of Technology study that estimates the accessible heat below the U.S. represents more than 2,500 times the nation’s annual energy consumption.

Media Thinks Europe Hating an American President is Good

In a display of how far the American mainstream has fallen in journalistic standards the media is now up to their necks in promoting the claptrap of stating that an European trip by Barrack Obama where Obama is actually liked and respected may be a bad thing for America.

When you see this type of retarded thinking you can’t help but feel a sinking feeling as to the future of American journalism. When the media stops thinking for itself and is only reading off John McCain campaign talking points it is in truly sad shape. Has the media really become such a slave to the far right or has it become that lazy and indiscriminate?

Will Humans Push for Economic Growth Kill Us?

In America, as in much of the developed and developing world, achieving a high economic growth rate has been considered the way to achieve prosperity and riches. Nations and companies compete with each other to see which can grow the fastest. Growth is so important to most of us that it is taken for granted as a goal that must be pursued.

Recently the US has been lagging behind countries like China, Russia, Brazil, and India, whose economies are growing almost ten times as fast as the revised 1% GDP first quarter growth rate released this week by the US Department of Commerce. There is great concern in the US that the US economy is already in or soon will be in a recession. The Fed is hard at work trying to prevent a recession and in fact is hoping for a faster rate of growth. Americans think that the economy should always be growing.
