Sports Excellence Punished in America
Here is a sad story that gives plenty of ammo to those who say that Americans are too dumb to be governed. It seems that there are oh so politically correct people in America who would punish sports excellence.
A nine year old pitcher in a baseball league has been banned from pitching because he is too good and throws a mean fastball. His team had eight wins and no losses when the Youth Baseball League of New Haven, Conn. told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more.
Officials for the three year old league, which has eight teams and over 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads. They state that Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned in protest. Vidro says he didn’t quit and the team refuses to disband.
This story is really hard to accept, especially right after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where excellence in sports achievement is celebrated. Are Americans that unaware how competitive the world has become? When excellence is punished instead of rewarded a horrible example is being displayed for the young people of America.
Americans may not be too dumb to be governed or to govern but it seems that at least a few citizens of New Haven, Conn. fit that description.
